NEW YORK CITY – The world’s top Apex Legends creators have generated over $300,000 to fight AIDS at the inaugural “Apex Rising Charity ProAm” esports tournament.
The virtual event, which was streamed on Twitch between April 20-21st and hosted by Apex Rising, featured 40 of the top Apex players, including FaZe Clan’s Gent, 100T iiTzTimmy, TSM ImperialHal, NRG SweetDreams, XSET OhNocturnal and celebrities like Max Holloway, Ronnie Stanley and Jack Falahee. (RED), the organization co-founded by Bono and Bobby Shriver to fight AIDS, was the official charity partner. The $337,668.70 proceeds from the tournament will go to supporting Global Fund, one of the world’s largest funders of global health.
“Gaming is about bringing people and communities together around shared passions,” said Jon “Falloutt” Kefaloukos, former professional gamer, current Apex Legends shoutcaster and the event organizer. “I’m so proud of the Apex Legends community for rallying together for a great cause: To get life-saving testing, treatment and care to those who need it most. We can’t wait to host and expand this incredible event next year.”
“Once again, the esports community stepped up and delivered in a big way,” said Huw Davies, Chief Communications and Campaigns Officer at (RED). “(RED) is honored to harness the passion, power and generosity of the Apex community to help make preventable and treatable disease preventable and treatable for everyone. Thank you Jon Kefaloukos and Apex Rising for organizing this spectacular event, (RED) partner Panasonic, as well as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, for their generous support.”
To date, (RED) has hosted two major livestreamed gaming events, including “The (RED) Creator Cup,” which brought together some of the world’s top Minecraft creators, generating over $350,000 for the Global Fund.
